Farm ID 3634

  1. Farm ID 3634
Property Description:

Hi! Thanks for taking a look at our Brown Farm!

This farm is located 10 miles from Interstate I-95 on Rt. 11 in Patten Maine. There is a commercial, state-of-the-art 150’ Rimol greenhouse and 14x24 farmstand on site, both with electricity.

The 536 acre parcel is comprised of 65% forest (mixed hardwood/softwood)~ 35% farmland. Two drilled wells on site with irrigation and electricity.

There are approximately (7) 5-acre fields that were in vegetable production over the past 3 years. Tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, beans, beets, carrots, and herbs have been grown among other things. Another 2 fields, approx. 30 acres each, have been logged, stumped and disked, now ready for planting. There is also a 3-acre apple orchard with about 500 trees in 15 varieties.

At a separate, nearby location there is a 200 x 80 warehouse with a 20 x 30 x 12 cooler, a new 2022 AZS vegetable wash line with pack tables, a bean sorting table, bubble washer and dunk tanks. Additionally, there is a 2015 Ryder refrigerated delivery truck for transportation to CSA's, Co-ops, and Fresh/Out of-state markets.
Multiple Amish families live in the area and are a good source of labor.

The Patten region borders Baxter State Park, the Katahdin Woods/Waters National Monument Land, and the Northern Maine Woods. A great location for the outdoor enthusiasts with hundreds of hiking, biking, tubing, sledding, boating, and skiing opportunities.

There are NO indoor farmers markets within 120 miles or more. The closest farmers market in 50 miles away, operating limited hours on Sat. am. The local population was vocal in their support/need for local farmsteads/local food.

There is no housing on site, but removable housing is allowed, i.e. yurt, camper, tiny home. There is opportunity to purchase or rent homes in the Patten area.

Haymart originally began clearing land and planting grains in 2014. From 2019-2022 they began experimenting with commercial vegetable production. However, our company's focus on planting, buying and transporting the grain market from N. Maine to New England has expanded into seed sales and soil amendments and taken away from our ability to focus on developing the vegetable markets.
