Past and present farming experience:

We've been homesteading on our 3/4 acre property for 8 years. We have experience with ducks, geese, chickens, goats, quail, and angora rabbits. We currently have about 27 chickens, 2 geese, 7 quail, and 3 angora rabbits. We're experienced with processing ducks, geese, chickens, and goats. We're harvesting angora fiber from our own rabbits. We blend it with other local sheep wools to create wool blends for spinning into yarn. We bred and raised and milked Nigerian Dwarf goats for 4 years. We've grown various annuals and have done canning and preserving for our family. We love growing lots of perennial herbs and plants and sell perennial starts in the Spring and Summer (elders, sunchokes, walking onions, oregano, lemonbalm, valerian, yarrow, etc...) I make and sell value added products like elderberry syrup and goats milk soap.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

We'd like to grow and sell garlic, perennials, strawberries, high bush blueberries, and cut flowers. We would operate a perennial and tree nursery. We'd like to continue with chickens, selling rainbow eating eggs and hatching eggs. We'd like to increase our quail and add butchered coturnix quail and fertile hatching eggs to our available products. We'd like to add sheep for wool and meat. We'd market our products through a roadside farm stand, local shops, and possibly farmer's markets. The wool and soap we would also continue to market on Etsy. We have 7 children ranging from age 13 down to age 1.5 and are giving them a farm based/nature based education and hope they'll keep learning and continue to farm as they grow. They enjoy helping with various aspects of farming as they're able.
