Past and present farming experience:

I was born and raised in Connecticut but now call Maine home. I moved here in 2012 to pursue a degree in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of Maine. In college, I spent a summer working on a small vegetable farm at home in CT, where I fell in love with farming. At UMaine I managed the student high tunnels and grew greens for the university dining facilities. After I graduated, I moved to southern Maine to work on a 5-acre, organic, four season farm. I took on managerial roles during my three years there and eventually left to diversify my farming knowledge and experience. I am currently apprenticing at Frith Farm in preparation for starting my own organic,no-till CSA-based, farm as soon as next season. I am hoping to find land where I can finally put all my years of farm skills and experience to good use to establish my farm business and start feeding my community.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

I am currently in the process of writing my business plan. I am planning for a no-till organic CSA based farm. My first season, I want to grow 0.5-1 acre of produce to support about 50 CSA members. I will sell my veggies at market as well as take on a few wholesale accounts with local stores/ restaurants (locations TBD based upon where I find land). I would love to expand that CSA member number my second year, likely farming the same amount of land. By season three I plan to invite apprentices to the farm to work with me. Over time I would love the expand my production to around 3 acres at most. Having land in cover crop rotation is important to me and will be incorporated into my business plan. Once the farm is established and he feel ready to leave (or drop to part time or contracting) my boyfriend would consider leaving his job to work on farm as well.
