Past and present farming experience:

For the last 7 years, I have been the senior farmhand and builder on a MOFGA-certified organic farm in Scarborough. I want to start my own farm and I have the support and guidance of the two farmers that I have been working for. My goal is to find 2-7 acres of farmable land with a liveable house, garage, barn, and water & septic/sewer as close to the Buxton/Standish area as possible.

I am experienced operating machinery, installing farm infrastructure, including greenhouses, and managing many crops and poultry. I love working with chickens, ducks & Guinea hens and also want to start my own flock as a no-kill operation in addition to developing my own orchard, greenhouse, and gardens.

I work full time as a mechanic and I’m good at repairing equipment. I drive and operate tractors on the farm where I work. I currently live near Standish and work at a small, diversified farm, Goronson Farm, in Scarborough, Maine, while I look for land in the Buxton, Standish area to start a small farm of my own.

I love the animals on the farm where I work; they always come to greet me. I have taken care of the poultry and ducks on this farm for 7 + years in all kinds of seasons and situations and am a firm believer in the ethical and humane treatment of farm animals.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

I have been farming as a senior farmhand on the Goronson Farm (a MOFGA-certified organic farm) since May of 2014 and am looking for a farm to call my own. I have participated in or managed the following farm activities:Farm Stand; No till preparation of crop beds; Vegetable seeding, planting & harvests; Flowers; Fruits; Poultry, Eggs & Chicks (Ducks, Chickens, Guinea Fowl, Turkeys); Seedlings & Saplings; Annual & Perennials; Educational events.

My farmer mentors have fruit trees waiting for me in their own nursery and have committed to hatching rare breed chickens, and ducks for me to start my own laying flocks; they have committed to providing me with seeds and seedlings. In addition, I will have a ready outlet to sell my crops/eggs/flowers through their new farm market.

I plan to start with a small egg-laying flock, vegetable gardens, and a small orchard in Year 1. In year 2, I plan to expand those areas and add a small hoop house for winter greens and seedlings. In Year 3, I plan to begin producing on a scale for market.

My plan is to build my farm operations to include vegetables, an orchard of apples, peaches, plums, pears, grapes, and other fruit, a flock of pasture-raised chickens and ducks for eggs, a greenhouse for winter greens, flowers, and seedling sales. My farmer mentors have grafted fruit trees waiting for me in their own nursery and have also committed to hatching rare breed chickens and ducks for me to start my own flocks and will provide me with vegetable and flower seeds & seedlings and some supplies needed to get started. In addition, I will have a ready outlet to sell my crops/eggs/flowers through their farm market.
