Past and present farming experience:

Hi! My name is Lesley, and my family would love to become the stewards of your farm. I have over 30+ years of experience raising livestock, specifically dairy heifers, steers, pigs, rabbits, goats, and chickens. I have received "in the field" training in a variety of integrated farm management levels, including organization and planning, soil management and fertility, crop protection, animal husbandry, horticulture, energy efficiency, pollution and waste control, landscape management, and public relations marketing. I actually learned how to drive a tractor before a car! My husband and I both have an extensive background in tourism, customer service, and hospitality management, so we know what it takes to keep a farm thriving. My dream is to have a farm operation that can be open to visitors who can learn the ways of farm life, pick (and purchase) produce, and imagine a way of life beyond what they are currently experiencing. Our farm would serve the community, as much as it would provide a living for us. (The photo is of me with my Grand Champion dairy heifer, Daisy).

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

My vision is to have a working family farm operation that can also be open to visitors who can learn the ways of farm life, u-pick produce (berries, herbs, produce, flowers, fruit trees, Christmas trees), and imagine a way of life beyond what they are currently experiencing. I would love for our farm to become a tourist destination for the area--which would not only help with our bottom line but can also have a financial impact on local businesses. Additionally, I have specific training in working with underserved communities and see this as an awesome opportunity to share our knowledge of working with the land with potential future farmers. I would also seek to partner with other organizations within the local community and throughout the state to help "fill needs" such as through work-release programs, or homeless shelters. Finally, as a lifelong Future Farmers of America (FFA) member, I would like to partner with any local schools to share agriculture with the students. My vision is that our farm would serve the community, as much as it would provide a living for us.
