I have worked on and volunteered at dozens of farms in MA and ME, experiencing/observing all manner of management style from conventional to certified organic. 2005 marked the beginning of a decade + of farming full-time/for a living. I have also spent several years managing my own market garden.
After growing up spending any free time I had at NCOF in MA, I lived at that farm (Natick Community Organic Farm) for almost 3 years as the intern/apprentice. During that time I had a hand in every aspect of organic livestock, fruit/veg., maple syrup, & cut flower production. I also worked as a counselor managing campers of all ages at the summer farm camps, and instructed visiting school groups during the winter. Since that time I have gone on to work on a variety of farms ranging from 3 acres to 180 acres of production; some privately owned, some managed by land trusts, some multi-generational farms. On these operations I have participated in/managed the following:
Organic vegetable & fruit production, organic orchard installation/management, organic livestock [(head, meat & dairy aspects) goats, cows, poultry, pigs], cut flower production & arrangement, all manner of tractor work, organic soil/land management, firewood production. In 2014 I served as coordinator for the Teen Agriculture Program at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport-- a program that has it's origins at NCOF.
I have also managed my own operations producing organically managed vegetables & cut flowers, as well as meat-rabbits, and a conventional farrowing operation.
At this time I am seeking to put from 1 up to 5 acres into organically managed production, as well as to support agricultural education/immersion and art enrichment programs for people of all ages. I have a deep appreciation for the importance of our connection to the land around us, as well as to the food we eat. Seeking to connect with a like-minded land owner open to exploring a creative transfer.
