Past and present farming experience:

I attended, and was very active in, a well known agricultural ffa high school. There I learned and practiced skills such as meat processing, agricultural mechanics, farm business management, syrup production, animal husbandry, and much more. After high school I joined the military for 4 years, during which time I started my own cattle breeding business (which I no longer do) and also apprenticed under a sheep herder. I now make my living as a farrier and a sheep shearer and I am looking for a place to start ranching. I have worked on dairy farms, a sheep farm, and a couple of large beef operations out west. I have at least the basic experience with all livestock and in many cases significantly more than the basics.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

I am a major advocate for diversified agriculture. Given the right situation and the right price I am looking to begin to build my herd/ flock. You name it I want it on my ranch; and that doesn't just go for livestock either. Each system works together, whether it's the chickens keeping the fly population down after the pigs have helped to airate and reseed a field or if it's the onions providing extra sugar for the sheep, or the beans returning nitrogen to the soil. An ideal situation would include a significant amount of autonomy to allow me to improve a landscape, or abandoned farm land, or revitalize pasture. My farrier and sheep shearing work will be what funds the ranching while it grows.
