Past and present farming experience:

H.C – Grew up working on my grandparent’s dairy farm in Anderson, SC. They milked 40 Holsteins and sold fluid milk to the coop. They had 100 acres in pasture and 40-60 acres in coastal Bermuda hay. H.C attended college in Chicago and graduated with a degree in Historic Preservation and worked for Kvaerner Construction until meeting K.H and getting married. K.H became the dairy manager and cheese maker at Blackberry Farm in Walland, TN and H.C was the farm production coordinator for the wider farm operations also at Blackberry Farm. In 2009 K.H and H.C began working in Coatesville, PA at Doe Run farm. H.C managed the farm (hay, vegetables, cereals) and K.H managed the dairy and was lead cheese maker. In 2013 H.C became dairy and meats buyer for Four Seasons Distribution Company and K.H became dairy manager/cheese maker for Appleton Farm in Ipswich, MA. K.H has a total of 7 ACS awards for cheese making.

Farm structures needed:
  • Milking Facilities
  • Barn(s)
Equipment needed:

We prefer to find a dairy that is working with it's equipment -- but will consider one that has a structure without working equipment. Would prefer to have a tractor come with the farm or available to purchase, also would like to have hay equipment -- however, it is not a deal breaker. Barn and farmhouse are a must.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

Our plan will depend on the farm. I have found that a plan without taking the land into consideration is not very worthwhile for dairy. I will scale the plan to what can be done on the land. I am happy to write one if there is a good chance at a sale, but not willing to submit one to a individual without serious consideration as a buyer.
