Past and present farming experience:

I am a recently retired Naval Officer & helicopter pilot. Before I retired, I did a five-month, part-time internship at Wild Willow Farm & Education Center in San Diego, CA. The focus there was small-scale, intensive regenerative and organic crop production. Following my retirement, I completed a year internship with Greg Judy at Green Pastures Farm in Clark, MO. There we used rotational mob-grazing techniques for separate groups of nearly 300 beef cattle and 150 hair sheep. Additionally, I volunteered with a tenant farmer of Green Pastures Farm, Blind Star Farm, assisting with 500 pastured laying hens and a yearly production of 50 forest-raised pigs. My family and I currently live full time in our travel trailer and are traveling the United States for the remainder of 2019 as we visit farms, friends, and the many natural sites of this beautiful country. We are narrowing down the potential geographic areas in which we hope to buy a farm, with mid-coast Maine as a top region.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

Our vision and goals are to raise livestock for direct-to-consumer, restaurant, and wholesale account sales in a multi-species, regenerative system. Eventually, we would like to add hospitality (RV sites or cabins), events (educational, U-pick, hosted events, and seasonal farm events), and an on-farm store for additional revenue and complimentary marketing. With a young and growing family, we seek to carry on the traditions of stewardship in a God-honoring manner that will allow our entire family to participate and benefit from the experience and work involved with wholesome food production.
