Past and present farming experience:

I have worked caring for hunter-jumper, dressage, and race horses for 11 years. I have been trained in basic stable management and training hunter-jumper horses to be handled on the ground and ridden. I diversified my knowledge of farming by completing my bachelors degree in Animal and Veterinary Science with a minor in Ecology and Environmental Science from the University of Maine, Orono in 2017. During my time at UMaine I worked in the dairy barn for 2 years (students are only expected to work 1 semester) learning how to milk, assist in calving, artificially inseminate cows, manage mastitis and other bovine ailments, and proper nutrition for fresh, dry, and lactating cows. As a student at UMaine I also was heavily involved in the Ewe Maine Sheep Club and volunteered to do daily barn chores, assist with shearing, and manage ewes and lambs during lambing season. Immediately following graduation I was selected by a professor to complete a lambing internship at the Agricultural University of Iceland. During this internship I independently delivered approximately 3,000 lambs and learned Icelandic shepherding techniques. Upon my return to Maine I have been working at ImmuCell Corporation, a bovine health company, to formulate preventative vaccines for cattle. I have continued working on several farms part time raising livestock (horses, chickens, pigs) hay, and vegetables. I have also completed the course So You Want to Farm in Maine? given by the Cooperative Extension to learn the business side of farming in Maine. Currently, I am working as a sheep and alpaca shearing apprentice for Edie Kershner.
