Past and present farming experience:

My partner and I have a few years of farming experience of various kinds. We are interested to homestead and possibly do small-scale farming, on land in Maine. We are looking to lease or buy. We are flexible with some of the features we are looking for, especially if we are leasing, but we'd like to be on some cleared and some wooded land, with water on site, good exposure, and decent soil/drainage. Particularly if we are buying, we are looking for probably 10 acres min, with some wooded and some clear/pasture land (min 5 acres). We are interested in properties that are off-grid and/or have the potential to be off-grid.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

We want to focus on growing nutrient-dense vegetables, including greens and root vegetables, as well as medicinal and cooking herbs, flowers, and possibly grains. Our focus is less on livestock/animals, although we are interested in raising chickens, possibly bees, and maybe a few other animals (sheep, goat). We aim to also grow berries, fruits, and nuts. We plan to implement all organic growing practices and low-tech, low-impact techniques when possible. We plan to compost, plant trees, rotate plantings, grow from seed, and grow in greenhouses. We aim to be completely off grid and provide our water, electricity, heat. We are interested in building and in working with the land to enhance and protect it.
