Garen founded his farm business on 2 acres in 1998 at Back River Farm. He sold at the Portsmouth, Durham, and Dover Farmers' Markets as well as wholesale to restaurants. He transitioned to his current location in 2010, changing his farm name to Garen's Greens. He leases 1.5 acres of land from Riverside Farm in South Berwick. He presently specializes in salad greens and roots, and sells primarily to restaurants and small stores, as well as at the Exeter and Rollinsford Winter Farmers' Markets. Jean co founded Meadow's Mirth Farm in 2004 and was involved in vegetable, berry, flower and dried bean growing. She marketed at various farmers markets as well as at local restaurants. Although she works two 'off farm' jobs, Jean is currently working on her Certification in Permaculture Design, and is experimenting with pollinator habitat creation. Garen and Jean are looking for a piece of property with enough land to continue growing vegetables, while expanding into small fruit and livestock production, while promoting diversity and wildlife habitat.

We are looking for a piece of property that can support a diversified farm. While we both have significant experience in growing vegetables and flowers, we would like to expand in other areas. Fruit, berries, poultry, maple, and nursery are areas which we have some prior experience, and are all possible componenets of our vision for the future. Rather than writing a specific business plan, we would rather remain open to modifying our approach based on the individual characteristics of the right piece of land. We are looking primarily at property in and around South Berwick, as it is where we currently live and work. We also have ties to Franklin, Maine, and are open to properties in that area, as we are interested in blueberry culture, as well as a more rural lifestyle.
