Past and present farming experience:

For the past 3 years I've been managing a 40 acre retreat center property in the grasslands of the southwest desert. I have been managing and raising a flock of Navajo-Churro sheep in alignment with Holistic Management practices. I also have experience planting and managing fruit trees/orchards on a small scale and have worked as a farm worker on a biodynamic vegetable CSA farm. I have extensive training and practical experience in broad acre regenerative farm design and planning and am looking to applying that to my own regenerative farm project. I was also a volunteer of another CSA for about 5 years where I helped with the distribution. My wife has also worked on an organic and biodynamic farm in Maui.

Here is a summary of the vision for my farming future and/or business plan:

I am currently in the process of writing one. My vision is to create a small diverse farm utilizing permaculture design, keyline design, and holistic management. Enterprises I'm looking to focus on initially are pastured layers and broilers and a no-dig market garden selling through direct-market streams (farmers markets, restaurants, natural grocery stores). My goal is to start small as I build my brand and grow over time. Depending on the amount of land I end up with will determine the eventual enterprise possibilities (grass-fed lamb and beef, forested and pastured pigs, orchard of fruit, nut, and berry crops). My overarching intention with the farm is to provide healthy, clean, nutrient-dense food to the local community while at the same time, through our farming practices, to sequester more carbon in the soil than is emitted.
